Why I support Palestine

Because Israel is blatantly, obviously in the wrong. They’re so obviously in the wrong that it’d be called too on-the-nose if they were the villains in a children’s cartoon. Israel is bombing hospitals. They are herding Palestinians into specific locations and then bombing or shooting them. They’re starving them. They’re attacking journalists and aid workers.

“But they’re Muslims! They hate you for being queer!” So fucking what? Should I support a genocide just because some of the people being targeted are homophobic? By that logic we should bomb my country off the fucking map, and probably yours too. I literally do not care about the personal beliefs of any given person in Palestine. If their actions cause pain to others, that’s still not an excuse to murder every single person there — including the victims of any homophobic, transphobic, or misogynist actions that might have occurred there.

Does any of this justify antisemitism? Of course not. Not anymore than the U.S. government’s targeted hate toward people of color, queer people, women, and disabled people justifies hate crimes toward Christians. However, just as pushing back against the latter isn’t actually an attack on Christians, neither is saying “Free Palestine” antisemitism.

I thought all of this would be obvious in the world of the terminally online, but I guess it’s not!
